With this refocus in content I am also changing the tagline of the podcast. If you are a regular to the podcast you know it wasn’t even a month ago that I did an entire episode about crafting a core message, and you may be wondering why the sudden change. Well I’ll let you in on a little secret. I actually recorded that in November and after listening to it on repeat I decided that if I was going to change the vision of the podcast a change in messaging should follow suit.
What was wrong with the old message?
Nothing was necessarily wrong, but I felt I could do better. The old tagline was long and not very straight forward. When I first started this podcast I focused on the “cliff of entrepreneurship” metaphor (you may recall the repelling analogy). However, when talking to people I found it was taking too much time to explain and I often found myself using other descriptors than the actual tagline to make it more clear and direct. I found myself more often saying that the podcast is focused on the “everyday entrepreneurs” and everything that happens before a startup (after all it is the idea behind the name “PreBoot”).
The old tagline also didn’t mention the word “startup” or “story” and moving forward those two words (and the hashtag #StartupStories) seemed to be central to the content I am creating. So the change just seemed necessary.
So what is the new tagline for the PreBoot Podcast? Great question.
- What is it? A podcast
- For who? Everyday entrepreneurs
- What will it provide? The stories of what it was like leading up to and eventually starting their businesses.
The Grand(er) Vision
Honestly, I probably could have changed my intro and the message in my twitter bio and most people wouldn’t have noticed. So why take the time to write this post? Well, along with the shift in content, and a new podcast tagline, I also have an even grander vision and refined excitement for the future of the PreBook Podcast. As mentioned in Episode 3, I have a vision for this to grow well beyond the podcasting platform to include a startup support network including job sharing, health benefits and mentoring. All of that is still true. The pie is still in the sky. It is just bigger.
I talk a lot about the stories of the “everyday entrepreneur”. The stories that you and I can actually relate to, and these stories are everywhere. (Like literally down the street from you and you probably don’t even know it) And as I have shifted the focus to just telling these stories and seeing how impactful telling these stories is, I have realized I want to provide the platform for the everyday entrepreneurs around the nation (dare I say, the world).
So I have a vision, a vision of a network of PreBoot Podcasts, all telling the stories of local entrepreneurs to the audiences who want desperately to hear them. I have a vision for a PreBoot Syndicate that pushes the stories of the names and companies we all know and love, showing up in your feed right next to the startup just down the street. Or perhaps even your startup, with your name. (Trust me searching your name on iTunes and seeing something show up is kind of cool).
I have no idea if this will happen, let alone when (don’t even get me started on how). But I find that I am motivated by having these types of visions. I get excited thinking about the stories that could be told. They motivate me and I think they are important to sustained success. But that is for another day and another post.
